Aftercare advice
The effects of reflexology are unique to each person. Most people experience a sense of calm and relaxation, others find it uplifting and energising.
Your body’s response to your treatment will be individual to you also. Some people respond to reflexology more quickly than others and notice an immediate improvement in their symptoms. Others, with longer term problems and ailments are likely to require more sessions. Most usually notice a difference after 3-5 sessions.
Reflexology promotes the body’s own healing processes. It should:

-
Boost your circulation
-
Balance your energy and emotional systems
-
Boost your digestive system
-
Assist your immune system
To gain the maximum benefits in the 12 hours after treatment, you should:

-
Drink lots of water as this will help hydrate the body, flush out toxins and improve energy levels.
-
Try to rest for the rest of the day as this will help the treatment work to its full potential and will allow your body to begin the balancing/healing process.
-
Avoid tea, coffee and alcohol as these are stimulants and will reduce the effectiveness of the treatment.
-
Eat a light and healthy diet to allow your body to put its energy into healing.
Adverse effects
For some, reactions are more extreme as your body responds to treatment. Reflexologists believe this is the body reacting to the treatment and beginning the process of re-balancing the systems to heal itself. A reflexology treatment can therefore produce one or more of the following:
-
a temporary worsening of your symptoms
-
feeling the need to sleep
-
feeling hot or cold
-
increased urination
-
feeling emotional or upset
-
skin reaction
-
a headache
-
feeling irritable or restless
-
having a runny nose
-
increased sweating of the hands or feet
-
nausea
-
dizziness
-
increased thirst
-
slight diarrhoea

Any side effects should pass within 24 hours and is a good sign that your body is responding to the reflexology and beginning the healing process.
