Managing Menopause

Going through the menopause, from the early stages of perimenopause right through to the post menopausal years, can be a demanding time both physically and emotionally.

We have oestrogen receptors all over our body sending hormonal messages telling the body how to function. When oestrogen declines the messages don’t get through. So it's no wonder we experience such a wide range of symptoms that can make us feel so unwell and out of sorts.

For those that choose to, and for whom it is appropriate, HRT can drastically improve your symptoms. Previous research stating that it increases your risk of breast cancer has since been debunked. However, for some, HRT is not an option or they would prefer to manage their menopause more naturally and this is where reflexology comes in. In fact, reflexology can support those taking HRT too.

How reflexology can support Menopause

  • It can regulate hormones and glandular functions helping to restore balance and reduce the hormonal fluctuations that cause symptoms such as hot flushes, brain fog, anxiety and mood swings.

  • The more stressed you are the more likely it is your menopausal symptoms will be severe. Reflexology can calm the nervous system which reduces the stress and anxiety response and improves sleep.

  • Working the thyroid reflexes encourages the regulation of calcium and phosphorous levels which support good bone health.

  • It can support the ovaries by helping to regulate the oestrogen secretions and uterine functions and maintain more natural balance.

  • Working the lymphatic system helps to reduce inflammation in the body and ease aches and pains
